What is an APPG?

An All Party Parliamentary Group is a grouping of MPs from across the political divide who have joined together in common interest of a particular subject.  There are a huge number of these groups within Parliament and they cover a very broad range of subjects.  For example there are APPGs for almost every nation on earth, a group covering the internet, a group covering climate change, right through to a group whose sole interest is cider!

In essence, APPGs play no role in the legislatory process, but despite this, some groups do wield considerable influence over the subjects they concern.  One of the most important roles of the APPG is to allow those outside of the political process to become involved in and influence politicians.  Frequently such groups offer charities and campaign groups an opportunity to involve themselves in the affairs of government and to have considerably input on the work carried out by APPGs.
