Sutton-at-Hone & Hawley
While this now represents a relatively small Parish, the former Parish of Sutton-at-Hone used to encompass an area larger than present day Dartford. Kent was formerly administered in areas know as ‘lathes’. Sutton-at-Hone represented half a lathe and included nearby towns such as Dartford.

Sutton-at-Hone Parish Council entered existence through the Local Government Act of 1894, and was reduced to its existing size with further reforms in 1955.

The parish also contains the one time Commandery of the Knights Hospitallers of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, a 13th Century garden and chapel now owned by the National Trust. Hawley is recorded in the Domesday Book, with the name meaning ‘holy woodland clearing.’
