The Role of an MP Your MP has no expressly defined role. While he or she is expected to represent your interstests in Parliament, most MPs are also available to help you with any personal problems that you may be experiencing.
MPs are at their most effective when dealing with government agencies such as the NHS, Customs and Excise or the Department of Work and Pensions. They are also able to take up cases with local or county councils, private companies and private individuals.
Additionally, your MP is also there to discuss issues of policy. Many people contact Dr Stoate to express their opinions on various pieces of national or local policy. Dr Stoate is always keen to hear the opinions of constituents on all policies, both at a local and national level.
In the last year, Dr Stoate has dealt with over 2000 individual pieces of casework. While he maintains overall responsibility for each case, it is necessary for his team of dedicated caseworkers to assist in this work at times. The only cases that Dr Stoate and his staff cannot provide assistance with is those of a legal nature. |
