Dartford MP, Dr Howard Stoate, has confirmed that he has arranged face to face meetings with both the Energy Minister, Lord Philip Hunt, and representatives of Ofgem, where he intends to highlight the ongoing concerns over EDF's offer of a 'goodwill' payment as a result of the recent power cuts in the area. The meetings, scheduled to be held in the over the coming weeks, will offer the MP to discuss directly with the Minister his concerns about the way in which compensation rules are currently worded and press for changes that better protect the consumer. Speaking on the subject, Dr Stoate said, "I am pleased that Lord Hunt has agreed to meet with me, and I hope that he will appreciate the case that I intend to make. This power cut has clearly highlighted the current inequality of the rules regarding power failure and fault, and I believe this offers a good opportunity to do something about it. I will also be doing what I can to push for more compensation for those worst affected by the power cuts." "Meeting with Ofgem will also offer the opportunity to discuss exactly what they are doing regarding this matter and establish how their investigation is proceeding." Dr Stoate will continue to keep residents informed regarding this matter. |
