Stoate opposes closure of Lane End Post OfficeLocal MP Dr Howard Stoate has condemend Post Office proposals to close the Post Office in Lane End. Dr Stoate has made a submission to the consultation team outlining his concerns at these proposals and the impact that a closure could have on local people. Commenting on the matter, Dr Stoate said, "this will deprive Lane End of one of its most popular and valued facilities and further reduce the range of services available to the community. The post master has worked hard to build up the business and hundreds of local people, particularly the elderly and those without regular access to a car, rely on it for lots of everyday services.
I have written to the Post Office to urge them to think again about this proposal. In my letter I emphasised the vital importance of the branch to the community given the marked shortage of shops and services in Lane End. I also underlined the difficulties involved in getting to the nearest alternative branches in the Fleet Estate, Longfield or Bean, particularly for people who have to rely on public transport. I am sure with the right support and investment from the Post office the branch has a viable future and can continue to serve the community for many years to come."
If you too feel strongly about this proposed closure then you can either write to Dr Stoate setting out your concerns or alternatively you can write direct to the Post Office with your objection. The deadline for submissions is 31 January and the address to write to is;
