MP concerned by scooter decision

Dartford MP Dr Howard Stoate has condemned the recent decision by reclassify mobility scooters, which has resulted in a 10% tax being levied on all imported scooters.

The decision to by the EU to implement the ruling of the World Customs Organisation means that scooters are now classified as being 'leisure vehicles', in the same class as golf karts, and means the price of an average scooter will increase by around £250.

Commmenting on the issue, Dr Stoate said, "I see no reason for this decision.  It will substantially increase the cost of these vehicles which provide a key lifeline for many elderly and disabled people.  I can confirm that I have raised this matter with the Treasury as a matter of urgency."
