Tuesday, 05 January 2010

English Heritage, the organisation responsible for the protection and promotion of historical sites across the country, has published a list of all the historically relevant buildings and sites within the constituency of Dartford, revealing their to be 10 Grade 1 listed buildings acoss the constituency.

The list shows that as of the end of August 2008, there were a total of 270 heritage sites within the constituency, including 10 Grade 1 listed buildings, 11 Grade 2* buildings and 231 Grade 2 buildings.  Grade 2 buildings are thought to be of special interest, whilst Grade 2* buildings are particularly important and more than special interest.  Finally, Grade 1 buildings are considered to be of exceptional interest, with barely 9,000 such sites in the entire country.

In addition to publishing this list, full details of which are below, English Heritage also revealed that it has provided funding totalling £106,000 to two churchs, St Mary Magdalene, Longfield, a Grade 2* listed church, and St Nicholas, Southfleet, a Grade 1 listed building.  The money has been provided in order to allow repair works to be carried out to both churches to ensure their continued survival.
