All Party Group on Obesity

The All Party Group on Obesity was setup in response to the ever greater problems that the UK faces as a result of obesity amongst the population.  The aim of the group is to promote greater awareness amongst both Government and the population at large of the problems which are associated with obesity, and to investigate measures which can help the Government to deal with the issue successfully.

The number of people affected by obesity has tripled since 1980, whilst in 1998 alone it is estimated that up to 30,000 people had died in part due to or because of their weight.  In an effort to tackle these figures, the Group works with the National Obesity Forum, a group setup by medical practioners in 2000 to highlight the effects that obesity was having on the NHS.

Dr Stoate is Co-Chair of the All Party Group on Obesity.
