MP supports Woodland Trust's card recycling scheme Dartford MP, Dr Howard Stoate, paid a visit today to the Dartford branch of TK Maxx in order to recycle his Christmas cards. The store is one of the participating retailers in the annual Christmas card recycling scheme run by the Woodland Trust in conjunction with Recycle Now. Special collection bins will be available throughout January at WHSmith high street stores, Tesco stores (including selected Express), any TK Maxx stores and all M&S stores including selected M&S Simply Food stores. All the cards collected during the campaign will be taken to paper mills where they are recycled into brand new paper products, with the money raised helping the Woodland Trust plant thousands of new trees throughout the UK. Last year the scheme collected over 3 million cards in Kent. This year the Woodland Trust has set a target of 3.5 million cards for the county. Dr Stoate said; “The scheme is a great way of making use of your old Christmas cards and helping the work of the Woodland Trust at the same time. I’d certainly encourage anyone who hasn’t already cleared out their cards to recycle them in this way.” Sue Holden, Chief Executive of the Woodland Trust, said: 'Kent did ever so well last year to collect as many Christmas cards as they did. However, this year is our biggest Christmas Card Recycling Scheme ever and as such we are asking people to recycle as many cards as possible to help us reach our 100 million cards target. Every card recycled will go towards helping us create much needed woodland for all to enjoy.' Fridey Cordingley, Head of Recycle Now said: 'Recycling is one New Year’s resolution that is easy to make and keep throughout 2008. Christmas cards are one of the easiest things to recycle after all the festivities have ended and people will not only be helping to support the Woodland Trust but helping to tackle climate change too.'
