Stoate presents toll campaign to Minister Dartford MP, Dr Howard Stoate presented the responses to his ‘Fair Toll for Dartford’ campaign to Transport Minister, Stephen Ladyman at the House of Commons last Thursday. The MP presented the Minister with over 1,200 post-cards from Dartford residents calling for a 90% reduction in the Dartford River Crossing Toll Charge - the same reduction on the London congestion charge offered to residents living inside the congestion charge zone - and for extra money to be spent on public transport projects in Dartford. “I’m delighted that so many Dartford residents have given their backing to my campaign. It demonstrates to the Department for Transport just how strongly local residents feel about this issue,” said Dr Stoate. “As well as having to pay the full toll charge to use the crossing Dartford residents also have to put up with all the congestion and pollution that it causes. This is totally unfair and I have made it clear to the Minister that if the tolls are to stay, then I expect substantial concessions to be made available to Dartford residents by way of compensation.” Notes The attached picture shows Dr Stoate handing over the responses to Transport Minister, Stephen Ladyman, on the terrace of the House of Commons on Thursday 8 March. Dr Stoate presented 1,234 responses to the Minister. The DfT’s consultation on the future of the Dartford River Crossing Tolls closed on 9 March. |
