MP demands answers from Tesco
Dartford MP, Dr Howard Stoate, has written to the Chief Executive of Tesco, Sir Terry Leahy, to demand to know what the company’s plans for the future of Lowfield Street are.

“I’m delighted that the Government has turned down the Lowfield Street development, but we now need to move on and start discussing how we can make best use of this site. We can’t afford another three years in which nothing happens and Lowfield Street is allowed to decline even further. That’s why I have written to Tesco to demand an early decision from them,” said the MP.

“I have made it clear to them that I want to see matters moved on as quickly as possible and that I do not expect to have to wait for months whilst they assess their options. Lowfield Street is in a mess right now and Tesco has a responsibility along with Dartford Borough Council and St James’s Investments to sort it out and sort it out quickly.”

“I have also made it clear that whatever happens I expect local residents to be involved in the discussions that take place about the future of the site at an early stage. I don’t want residents’ views to be ignored to the extent that they have been in the last three years.”
