Local MP declared fittest in the House
Dartford MP, Dr Howard Stoate, has claimed the title of the fittest MP in the Commons after taking part in a fitness test between MPs from each of the main three parties organised by Men’s Fitness Magazine.

The MP, who is the Chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Obesity Group and a keen marathon runner, lined up against Jeremy Hunt, the Conservative MP for South West Surrey, and Tom Brake, the Liberal Democrat MP for Carshalton. The MPs was nominated for the test by their respective parties.

The three MPs were asked to take five tests in total including, ‘assisted pull-ups’, ‘vertical leap’, the ‘plank’, ‘elevating run’ and ‘sit and reach’. Dr Stoate came top in three events and was declared the overall winner, with Jeremy Hunt second and Tom Brake third – a result, the magazine commented, that mirrored the overall outcome of the 2005 General Election.

The full report of the fitness test appears in the December edition of Men’s Fitness Magazine.
