EDM 1234 - Royal Ordanance factory at Chorley 27.03.2007
Hoyle, Lindsay
That this House notes the imminent closure of the Royal Ordnance factory at Chorley; recognises the key role that the Royal Ordnance factory played in supplying munitions throughout the Second World War, including constructing casing for the Barnes Wallis bouncing bomb, in addition to supplying munitions throughout the second half of the twentieth century; pays tribute to the dedication and commitment of the local workforce based in Chorley, in particular to those employees who died while at work; expresses concern at the refusal of BAE Systems to erect a memorial for those who died or were seriously injured, many of whom were women, while working at Royal Ordnance; and calls on BAE Systems to reconsider its decision following the millions of pounds it has gained from selling the site while production moves abroad to ensure even greater profits for the company. |
