Council announces plans to dispose of land in Central Park for 'park carriageway' Dartford MP, Dr Howard Stoate, has urged local residents to write to Dartford Borough Council to object to plans to dispose of land in Central Park in Dartford to make way for the Park Road. The Council has issued a public notice of its intention to dispose of the land at the end of December and has set an initial deadline for objections of 31 January. “I would urge every resident who cares about the future of our park to object to these plans as soon as possible. The decision by the Council as to whether to dispose of the land marks a key point in the development schedule and it is vital that this deadline doesn’t slip by unnoticed – as I’m sure the Council leadership is hoping judging by the way in which the notice has been published.” “Despite the importance of this decision the only people that have been directly informed of the publication of the notice have been the members of the cabinet and the chairman of the development control board. Neither I or opposition members of the Council, or indeed any of the residents who have commented on the application have been directly informed. It is yet another example of the way in which the Council is trying to rush through the application without due regard to the proper consultation procedure,” said the MP. The MP made it clear however that whilst the deadline probably represents the public’s last opportunity to comment direct to the Council about the park road plans, it is not the end of line as far as the Save our Park campaign is concerned. “Until work on the road actually gets underway we still have a chance of getting the developer and the Council to change their mind. I have no intention of giving up the fight until that happens,” said the MP. “Moreover the Government has yet to reach a decision as to whether it is able to call in the Lowfield Street application. A call in will ensure not only that the application gets properly scrutinised but will also mean that the views of local residents – including the results of the referendum on the park road which I am now carrying out - about the application - are given full consideration,” said the MP. |
